Bardo, in Tibetan Buddhism, is the place between life and rebirth. My encounters with the paranormal have taught me that the Bardos are everywhere. A state of mind can also be a Bardo. I have found that Bardos are self-induced realities, worlds created by us that feel solid and true, but aren't anymore real than our reflection in a mirror. In the 1990's I started a search for as many Bardos as I could find, the list is infinite. Obsessed, I began showing Bardos through my photographic art. The Bardo Boy cover is one of those photographs, The Bardo of Sexual Pleasure.
Here are some of the Bardos I have found, perhaps one of these Bardos is familiar to you. The Bardo of Childhood, The Bardo of Sexual Deception, The Bardo of Being Fat, The Bardo of Being Ugly, The Bardo of Being Beautiful, The Party Boy Bardo, The Bardo of Domestic Violence, The Bardo of Happiness, The Bardo of Sadness, The Bardo of Ice skating...
How many Bardos can you find in your life? Once you find them you can discard them, if Ego will let you. Remember, Ego thrives in the Bardos. Some Bardos are fun. I think that it's perfectly fine to enjoy some of your Bardos (Ego be dammed), the trick is to know that the Bardo is an illusion. Don't make it more real than it is. This way, when the illusion turns to pain, and they always do, you can just discard it like an old pair of underwear.
